Board Member Description

Expectations of CNRG Board Members:

  • Believe in and support the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Attend monthly board meetings and maintain awareness of CNRG activities.
  • Participate on one committee (Marketing, Fundraising, Member Services, Technology, Executive, or Moderating)
  • Participate in and support all fundraising events.
  • Provide an annual contribution to the organization at a level that is significant for each individual and his/her circumstances.
  • Work independently on projects or portions of work and report back to the full board.
  • Subscribe to and read the CNRG digest.
  • Participate in an annual board retreat to reflect on our work and plan for the future.
  • Communicate effectively in group settings and via email between meetings.
  • Develop good working relationships with other board members while doing interesting work that serves your personal goals as well as the community.
  • Volunteer an average of 10 hours per month helping CNRG pursue its mission.
  • A two-year commitment with the expectation that if circumstances prevent you from fulfilling your term that you recruit a replacement board member who will fill your spot.

The board provides for both staff and governance functions while CNRG makes the transition to an organization with staff and a sustainable business plan.  Our committees also include non-board member volunteers.  We sometimes work with interns, graduate students and contractors on specific projects.  The CNRG Board currently meets on the 4nd Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at CubeSpace in SE Portland.  Meetings include formal reports from committees, finance reports, website updates, and discussions of proposals and other current business.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the CNRG Volunteer Application.
