The Office of Neighborhood Involvement’s (ONI) Public Involvement Best Practices Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and supporting the Public Involvement Best Practices Program. Responsibilities include supporting the Public Involvement Advisory Council (PIAC), a City commission of community leaders and City staff that develops guidelines and policy recommendations for citywide involvement of the public in government decision making; convening professional development forums and workshops (Citywide Public Involvement Network or CPIN) on public involvement skills and topics for City staff; and providing technical assistance to City agencies with a focus on equitable public involvement policy, strategies for engaging historically underrepresented communities, and online digital engagement tools. Duties include developing working relationships with a wide range of City staff, diverse community and neighborhood leaders, and elected officials in order to promote a culture in the City that is supportive of public involvement in government; recruiting, orienting and supporting a diverse membership in PIAC; providing strategic planning, facilitation, and logistical support for PIAC and CPIN; developing curriculum and support materials related to public involvement theory and practices; providing information and technical assistance and training to other City agencies; advocating citywide adoption of equitable public involvement policy and practices; and planning and conducting promotional activities with a focus on digital formats.
