Cultivating Six Essential Competencies of High Performing Boards

Research on nonprofit boards by Jackson and Holland led them to define six dimensions of board competency that describe essential elements of effective governance. High performing boards exhibit behaviors that are: contextual, educational, interpersonal, analytical, political, and strategic. In this session we’ll learn about each of these behaviors and concrete activities your board might adopt to improve its performance.

Carri Munn, Decisions Decisions
Carri has played key roles in growing businesses and nonprofit organizations, focusing on strategic planning, systems development, governance, community outreach, marketing, and project management. She’s always ready to ask, “what’s going on?,” listen attentively to what follows, and then let her creativity loose for some collaborative problem solving.
Prior to joining Decisions Decisions in 2004, she spent three years providing support to Portland’s community development corporations and nearly a decade as acquisitions manager and marketing director for property management companies. 

Carri received her masters degree in Nonprofit Management and Public Administration from Portland State University.
