OMSI Research & Development Program Internship
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is seeking a Research & Development Program Intern. This is an unpaid position which may be completed for school credit. It offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to be involved in the creative development of a new program at OMSI. This position will begin in early March and will remain open until filled.
Internship Summary:
The Research & Development Program Intern will assist the OMSI's Sustainability Project team with developing a series of sustainability-related audio stories. The intern will be particularly responsible for researching stories, arranging interviews, and helping to edit the interviews into short audio pieces that will then be accessible by cell phone and the Internet. The program will be in Spanish and English, so we strongly encourage applicants who are fluent in both languages to apply. This internship offers an opportunity to be involved in the creative development of a new program at OMSI.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Research and document potential stories.
* Coordinate interview times and places.
* Attend and support interviews.
* Transcribe interviews.
* Assist program developers with outlining and editing stories into finished pieces.
* Attend team meetings as needed.
* Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills:
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Familiarity with sustainability-related topics and issues.
* Excellent research skills (library, databases, interviews, and Internet).
* Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
* Ability to meet deadlines.
* Ability to work effectively on a team.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Proficiency in the following software programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet browsers required; Audacity or other audio-editing software preferred.
* Applicants fluent in Spanish, including excellent writing and speaking skills, strongly encouraged to apply.
Education and Work Experience:
* Experience conducting on-line research.
* Experience creating audio or video media preferred.
* Formal education or experience in sustainability/environmental issues and/or communications/media production preferred.
Time Commitment:
10-30 hours per week, 3 months (March 1 - May 31)
