Join us in a closed area of the refuge for a tour with staff and learn about the natural and historical wonder that is the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. The Friends of the Refuge will provide refreshments and pizza for lunch while staff give a presentation about the refuge and how you can help with conservation and visitor programs. A community lecture on the neurological, relational, and personal impact of today’s technology use. Ideal for people of all ages - filled with research, music,
videos, and engaging information!
This lecture is a fundraiser for Do Jump! Extremely Physical Theatre and School. All proceeds will go directly to operational and school costs. There is a suggested $25 registration fee. No one will be turned away for lack of funds, however, and a sliding scale is available.
Prompt: A Write Around Portland Community Workshop
Join us for a 10 week workshop devoted to generative writing and the transformative power of writing in community. Based on the successful Write Around Portland (http://www.writearound.org/) model, this dynamic workshop incorporates many of our favorite exercises designed to inspire the writing life, including free-writing; group discussion; imagery, character, plot and poetry development; and early-draft revision.
All proceeds from Prompt go directly toward funding Write Around Portland workshops and programs in hospitals, prisons, schools, treatment centers, low-income housing facilities and more.

Our program was developed by a committed Task Force Committee (many former staff members with Northwest Service Academy.) Our new program focuses on providing environmental services to lower income communities and communities of color in the greater Portland area.

E-mail is an integral part of our lives and work, but most of us approach it by trial and error. It's easy to get buried and frustrated. More intentional, effective use of e-mail has the potential to transform our work and lighten our spirits. By the end of this session, you will be able to:

You have a responsibility to protect your donor’s information. Are you doing enough? This session will explore your ethical and practical obligations in protecting confidential information. We will discuss best practices and the questions you should be asking to make sure that your organization has policies and practices that will not leave you vulnerable to the release of confidential information. Your donors’ trust is an important asset and you will want to attend this interactive program to review your organization’s practices and to see what you might be able to do better.
Cultivating Six Essential Competencies of High Performing Boards
Research on nonprofit boards by Jackson and Holland led them to define six dimensions of board competency that describe essential elements of effective governance. High performing boards exhibit behaviors that are: contextual, educational, interpersonal, analytical, political, and strategic. In this session we’ll learn about each of these behaviors and concrete activities your board might adopt to improve its performance.

Plant Trees with SOLVE!
Plant Trees with SOLVE!
Volunteers are needed this Saturday, Feb 11 to plant trees at Phillips
Creek in Milwuakie. It only takes a few hours to help enhance the Phillips
Creek Basin. Over time, this work will improve water quality, create
wildlife habitat, and store carbon to slow climate change. SOLVE will
provide all tools and gloves for this project.

William Temple House in NW Portland seeks a Volunteer Food Pantry/Emergency Supply Center Coordinator with a passion for helping others and strong organizational skills.
This position is ideal for a person with inventory management skills and experience working compassionately with individuals and families in need and coordinating the work of a group of volunteers. Familiarity with inventory management is a big plus.
The food pantry is open to clients Tuesday and Wednesday although duties not requiring client contact can be performed on Thursdays. The weekly time commitment is 4 to 6 hours.
