Duende de Lorca – World Premiere at Miracle Theatre

Miracle Theatre’s newest play, Duende de Lorca, follows the early years of Federico García Lorca’s early successes from the opening night of Mariana Pineda, followed by the printing of Gypsy Ballads and Poet in New York. Audiences will share in his triumphs and failures and his relationships with Salvador Dali, Melchor Almagro, Emilio Aladren and others as his journey from Spain to New York and Cuba shapes his life and his art.

 

Performances Jan. 13-22, 2011. Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sunday Jan. 16 and Saturday Jan. 22 at 2 p.m.

"Fostering Harmony" Artist Community Conversation (Jeff Schnabel & William Tripp)

Join us for the final night of our Community Conversation series and the announcement of the "Fostering Harmony" Viewer's Choice Award! Presentations begin at 6:00 PM.

 

Jeff Schnabel, artist and assistant professor of architecture at PSU, will address his connection to industrial sites and how these places' layered histories have transformed his thinking about design and provided a foundation for his artistic endeavor. He'll discuss the primary themes of his work and why encaustic painting is the best way for him to express his ideas.

Connection Peer Support Group starting in Milwaukie

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Clackamas County (NAMICC) will be hosting a new Connection Recovery Peer Support Group on Mondays, from 1:30-3:00 pm at their office, 10202 SE 32nd Dr., Ste. 501, Milwaukie, OR 97222. NAMI Connection is a weekly recovery support group for people living with mental illness in which people learn from each others’ experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other encouragement and understanding. Other groups in Clackamas County are on Wednesdays in Oregon City. The group is on a drop-in basis, no preregistration is required. Celebration of Hope Saturday Dec. 11th

With just a few days left, tickets for the annual “Celebration of Hope” are going fast.

 

Come join the Ray of Hope Foundation (www.RayofHope4All.org) for an evening of great African food, cultural performances and dancing as we celebrate the communities we work in, our volunteers and our programs.

 

This event will take place Saturday December 11th from 6-11pm the Immaculate Heart Church, 2926 North Williams Avenue Portland, Oregon 97227.

Volunteering

Brown Bag Action Days

Living Earth's next Brown Bag Project action days are Tuesday Dec. 14 and Tuesday Dec. 21. 10 AM-1:00 PM

 

We will prepare food, then distribute one-to-one to folks on the streets near the bridges, downtown and in old town. We plan to provide hot soup, sandwiches, fruit, and cookies (homemade or store bought) in our lunches. Additional food items needed include small apples and tangerines, hi-protein/low sugar granola bars, little packs of peanuts, packaged cookies, packaged string cheese, and cans of soup (vegetable / minestrone, and/or chicken noodle), and mustard & mayo packets.

 

We will offer at least 50 lunches on both days in December, and also a hat and/or scarf from Living Earth's Hats & Scarves project.

Development Assistant/Volunteer Coordinator MVP: The goal of this volunteer position is to engage new people with Playworks, tapping their interest in improving the academic success of students at low-income public schools by offering opportunities to work both with children directly and support the general development activities to meet organizational our goals. This volunteer position is designed to support the Playworks Portland volunteer and development program by assisting with the recruitment and training of volunteers and general help with development activities as needed.

St Johns Planting at Baltimore Woods with SOLV on Saturday

Feeling guilty about that Christmas tree in your living room? Well come plant native trees and shrubs with SOLV in St. Johns on Saturday, December 11th! We will be working in Baltimore Woods from 9:00am to 12:00pm rain or shine, and all tools, gloves and supplies will be provided. By planting native trees and shrubs, volunteers will be lowering stream temperatures and creating an ecosystem that will filter polluted stormwater runoff, improve water quality, provide better habitat for wildlife, and be more resilient to climate change.
