Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council and Metro naturalist James Davis
for a birding tour of Smith & Bybee Wetlands. We'll walk around the trails
looking for spring bird activity before enjoying a delicious lunch from the
Council. Free/$5 suggested donation; suitable for adults and children 12 &

"Emprendedor" Business Development Seminars, Sustainability in Your Business

 

Announcement in English:

Adelante Mujeres, a Forest Grove-based nonprofit, and the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce a new series of small business development seminars geared towards Latino business owners. Titled "¡Emprendedor!" (Spanish for "Enterprising"), these FREE seminars are held every second Thursday of the month from 6-7:30pm at the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. Each presentation, given in Spanish, lasts for one hour with 15 minute networking sessions prior to and after the program.

Ethiopian Banquet

Ethiopian and American students who received the 100 Projects for Peace grant at Lewis & Clark College invite you to their Banquet next Monday. The Banquet is a fundraiser for our project in Borena, Ethiopia this summer. Borena was a cite of much conflict over water in 2006 and the grant will help fund the construction of a well and a conflict mitigation workshop. We must raise an additional $2,000 to complete funding for the well. Your support would be greatly appreciated!

The Banquet is on Monday, April 18th at Lewis & Clark College in Smith Hall-0615 SW Palatine Hill Rd.. The reception begins at 5:30 pm and an Ethiopian-themed dinner begins at 7:00 pm. The evening will also include a silent auction and a cash bar.

Youth Empowered Action seeks intern

YEA Camp is seeking an intern for 10-30 hours a week.

This is a wonderful opportunity to work with amazing staff and youth, while gaining skills and learning how a non-profit works. We're looking for someone who is highly motivated and self-directed and is passionate about the work we do. Ideally you would live in the Portland area.

Typical duties of our interns include:
Administrative tasks
Securing donations for our camps
Assisting with curriculum and planning for the camp
Doing outreach to local schools and organizations and online publicity
Helping our staff at camp
Supporting our campers before and after camp with their fundraising efforts or projects
and much more!

Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division Executive Director Search

Since 1923, the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division has been
providing emergency food and clothing relief to Portland families and
individuals in need. Governed by a civilian volunteer board of
directors, the Sunshine Division enjoys a unique partnership with the
Portland Police Bureau, which allows us to extend the reach of our
services into the community on a 24/7 basis. Through our staff of 7 and
more than 300 loyal and dedicated volunteers we provide 2,700,000 pounds
of food and clothing annually to Portlanders in need.

8:45a.m-1p.m.-Plant it for the Planet! Register to plant native trees to save salmon! This is a 4-hour commitment, rain or shine. All training and supplies are provided on-site. HAYLO Mentors Needed

*HAYLO, Helping a Youth Leap Onward *

Are you able and willing to donate your time and skills? Do you like to
have fun? Would you be interested in welcoming immigrants into our
community? Would you like to learn about a new culture? Learn a new
language? Would you like to be a mentor?

Come share, build, and practice your skills by volunteering your time with
us!

We are looking for mentors who are willing to help East African, Burmese,
Eastern European and Hispanic youth. Mentors will spend one and a half
hours a week helping with homework and English, talking about school, life,
and the youth’s future.

Celebrate Earth Day early and get ivy out of Kaiser Woods!

Grab your tools and do some spring cleaning for Oregon with SOLV on Saturday, April 16th. We have a project with THPRD at Kaiser Woods in the Bethany area from 9 am to 1 pm. Volunteers will be working to get rid of one of the least desirable of plants, English ivy. Join in the fun and do your part for Oregon!

Learn about native plants and help them grow - Saturday in Tualatin!

Grab your tools and do some spring cleaning for Oregon with SOLV on Saturday, April 16th. We have a project with Metro at their Native Plant Center near Wanker’s Corner from 9 am to 1 pm. Volunteers will be removing invasives, mulching, and planting to increase habitat diversity and improve the stream bank near the Native Plant Center. Join in the fun and do your part for Oregon!

Spread mulch to protect baby plants on Saturday in Tualatin!

A pile of mulch and some buckets are waiting to be gently placed in a ring around baby plants on Saturday, April 16th. SOLV and the Tualatin Parks Department will be leading volunteers at Atfalati Park in Tualatin from 9 am to 1 pm who will be be spreading this mulch to protect newly planted native trees and shrubs. Join in the fun and do your part for Oregon!

Oregon Wild, a nonprofit organization working to protect and restore Oregon's wildlands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy for all Oregonians, is currently looking to recruit an OLCC certified bartender to assist us at our April 30, 2011 fundraising tribute event for our former Executive Director Regna Merritt. We are celebrating her 20 years of advocacy for Oregon's wild places.

It is going to be an evening filled with music, memories, and loving tributes to Regna. And we would love for you to be a part of it!
