| position summary: | General Description of Duties: To work in conjunction with Xploregon Program Director to plan and implement a series of 4 road trip programs for teenagers 14-17 years of age. Based out of Portland’s Camp Fire USA office and its campsite Camp Namanu, Xploregon is a 12 day youth leadership road trip that travels across Oregon following an itinerary of youth led volunteer projects, outdoor activities and leadership opportunities. Four trips will be running through July and August this year, and each trip will have 14 teens and 4 staff and will travel to 8 communities or roughly 900miles. Please see work schedule below. Work Schedule: 24 hours a week March 1st – June 1st then full-time June-August Residential Camp Based Training: 6/26/10-7/2/10 Road Trip Sessions: #1 7/6/10 --7/15/10, #2 7/18/10 – 7/29/10, #3 8/8/10 – 8/19/10, #4 8/22/10 – 9/2/10 Post Trip Debrief & Evaluation: 9/6/10-9/08/10 Examples of Work: Facilitation of monthly youth planning meetings Fostering partnerships with community organizations around Oregon to coordinate service projects Work with Xploregon Program Director to plan and co-facilitate training for summer staff Direct supervision of teen participants and counselors on an intensive road trip program. Facilitation of a summer camping program that involves service projects, camping and adventure. Create and maintain a safe learning environment for Xploregon participants and counselors. Transporting participants and equipment across Oregon for an estimated 900 miles per 12 day trip. Managing group and individual behaviors, overseeing daily tasks and other duties as assigned. | Salary / Pay Rate: | Compensation: $14 an hour (March-June), $90-$100 DOE per field day (July-Sept) |
| Required Skills and Abilities: | Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A minimum of 3 years experience working with teens in a leadership or service-learning setting Ability to work and execute 4 road trip programs with minimal supervision Ability to work in and facilitate a team environment Ability to perform throughout the intensive 12 day road trips Ability to model appropriate behavior, boundaries and conversations with youth Ability to communicate effectively with counselors and program director <strong>Valued Qualities:</strong> High level of energy, creativity and enthusiasm Strong skills in the areas of interpersonal communication, time management, and leadership A team player and self-starter who is flexible, patient and reliable. |
| Qualifications: | Required Experience and Training: This position holds a minimum age requirement of 25. Minimum CPR/First Aid & Oregon Food Handlers Certification required prior to employment. Ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds, engage in strenuous physical activities, and walk/stand for extended periods of time. Clean driving record with 3 years of driving experience and comfortable driving large pickup trucks. |
