Position Overview

Field Organizers based in Portland and Eugene will build public support for the freedom to marry by growing an intensive and large-scale grassroots field program and developing volunteer leadership. With the support of regional and national experts, the team will lead a cutting edge program to build public support for the freedom to marry, positioning the state for national leadership on LGBT equality.

The Organization

Basic Rights Oregon is the state’s leading grassroots advocacy and education organization dedicated to ensuring that lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender Oregonians experience equality. More info at www.basicrights.org.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, mobilize and train volunteers to take action for the organization’s priorities, including phone banks, canvasses, educational events, speaking engagements, etc.

• Recruit participants for the Marriage Matters video project (marriagemattersoregon.org)

• Raise money through individual donors, events, house parties and organizations

• Represent the interests of the organization with local community leaders

• Advance organizational goals for marriage equality, as well as transgender justice, youth justice, and racial justice

• Maintain systems to track volunteer participation; prepare project reports and work plans

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous community, labor, student or related organizing experience

• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and overcome obstacles

• Detail oriented, driven to succeed; ability to work independently and in a team.

• Commitment to building a multi-racial team; experience working in multi-racial environments

• Commitment to excellence and to the mission and goals of the organization

• Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel in-state

• A deep and burning desire to make change in the world
