| position summary: | Provides leadership in working with departments across campus to increase funding for academic and other university priorities by securing and managing grants, sponsorships, appropriations and other gifts from private foundations and corporations, as well as state, federal and other public sources. |

| Required Skills and Abilities: | 1. Work with departments across campus to determine academic and other fundraising needs that might be addressed by grants and other institutional funding. 2. Determine priorities for grant development in consultation with the Vice President for University Advancement and University leaders. 3. Based on University priorities, work with faculty and staff to research funding sources, develop, edit and submit grants and other proposals. 4. Act as a central clearinghouse and point of contact for grants campus wide, conduct ongoing research of grants availability, and inform appropriate departments of opportunities and deadlines. 5. Develop proposal budgets and work with departments and University leadership to ensure that an adequate plan exists for projects beyond grant funding. 6. Work with the Business Office and the appropriate departments to monitor grant progress and ensure compliance with funder requirements for reporting and stewardship. 7. Develop and maintain relations with institutional donors and network with higher education peers and appropriate leaders in the funding community to enhance Marylhurst University’s connections and opportunities. 8. Develop the capabilities of faculty, adjunct faculty and staff to articulate needs and assist in the grant writing process through mentorship and more formal training including workshops and classes. 9. Prepare briefing materials and strategy advice for visits to potential funders by the President and other University officials. 10. Develop and edit proposals for large gifts from individual potential donors as needed. 11. Maintain the historical files on grants for the University. |
| Qualifications: | 1. Bachelor’s degree required. 2. Minimum of 3 years of experience and a successful track record of securing foundation, corporate and/or public sector funding for non profit organizations (with a preference for higher education). 3. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 4. The ability to work collaboratively with departments and quickly absorb the discipline-specific language required for proposals. 5. Knowledge of private and public funding sources and strong research skills to identify new sources. 6. Ability to develop clear proposal budgets. 7. Excellent organization and problem solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities. 8. Strong computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite including word processing, spreadsheet, database, excel, mail merge and presentation systems. Ability to learn new software. 9.
