Bag & Baggage Theatre Company opens it's World Premier adaption which combines Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" with John Fletcher's "A Woman's Prize, or the Tamer Tamed" into one production that rounds out the complete battle of the sexes.

Ever wonder what it was like, living during Shakespeare's day and going to see theatre? Some stood for the entire performance, raucous and loud, telling the actors exactly what they thought of the show, good and bad. Others were higher class and sat in seats above, looking down on the mass of people. Thousands attended the performances. It was entertainment for all. It was bold, bawdy, base and yet often beautiful. But it was *anything* but stuffy.

We invite you to join us for such an experience. Artistic Director Scott Palmer has adapted Shakespeare's *Taming of the Shrew*, trimmed it, and combined it with John Fletcher's *A Woman's Prize*, where the tables are turned on the men as the women seek their revenge.

Fletcher was a contemporary of Shakespeare, and actually MORE popular than the Bard. His play, subtitled '*The Tamer Tamed*', is considered by some to be a proto-feminist piece, written as a response to *Shrew*, completing the circle of this hysterical battle of the sexes.

Additionally, for the first time in Bag & Baggage's history, we are presenting this play in its original period, including costume and scenery. But even more than that, it will be presented in the original acting style of the Elizabethan era; very fast-paced, direct address, playing to the audience that at the time often was being distracted by other things around them, and with an energy and comedic style that was intended for the common man. An area of seats in the theatre have been removed to allow for a thrust coming out into the audience, where some audience members will be allowed to sit around on benches, as groundlings in the Old Globe did. You will be transported back in time, to experience the show as audiences living under Elizabeth's reign would have. We can't wait to show you!
