Healthy Kids Community Organizer

Healthy Kids Community Organizer is a dynamic people person who has excellent verbal, written, data collection and computer skills.  They will sign up all eligible families who have children who meet the states requirement but will strategically target their outreach efforts in identifying and support low-income communities and people of color community member’s enrollment in the State of Oregon’s Healthy Kids Initiative.  The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as a part of a collective to achieve program. The successful candidate will have a commitment to social and racial justice; some experience in community organizing; good community connections and the ability to work with diverse staff and community members and families.  In addition organizer must have a reliable form of transportation that is covered by liability insurance prior to starting employment in this position.

This project is funded through 6/30/10.    The specific measurable outcomes that organizers will be evaluated on are listed below: Organizers in Portland & Medford will:

Sign-up 350 (each office) eligible children 18 years old and under before 6/30/10

Hold 2 meetings per month with community partners and network representatives for planning and coordination of project

Conduct 8 neighborhood canvases per month Hold 8-13 neighborhood/community meetings per month in targeted communities

Conduct 4 volunteer tabling and homeless outreach days per month Attend at least 1 supervisory meeting between regional organizer and outreach coordinator per month

Collect outreach and enrollment data daily and provide monthly report of all efforts to enroll target population per State of Oregon Healthy Kids training and/or Oregon Action requirements

Maintain master copies of all communications develop for project including information materials provided by State of Oregon, Healthy Kids Grant Coordinator  

Compensation:

·         Oregon Action will provide compensation of $2,000 & $2,500 per month based on experience.

·          Individual health Insurance

·         Auto Insurance reimbursement up to $145 per month

·         Auto mileage reimbursement for outreach activities with receipts and appropriate documentation
