Education-Workshop EARTHEN FLOOR INSTALLATION TRAINING WORKSHOP

Earthen Floor Installation Training Workshop

The instructions include: preparing the space, tool use, mixing, and application techniques for both base floor and finish floor, burnishing, finishing a dry floor and doing repairs. There will be lots of time actually laying a finish floor. Participants will receive a completion certificate, which will count towards becoming a certified Claylin installer. Open for 8-10 participants.

Schedule: All days start at 9am and could end early, depending on what gets done and all the questions. Wear clothes that you can get dirty; I like to wear coveralls so I can go home clean. Bring gloves that can get wet, and your favorite ear and eye protection if you have some, there will be some available if not. Bring water, snacks and lunch; there will be an hour lunch break on the longer days. Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. is a non-profit working to support the success of women in the construction trades since 1989. We offer a free pre-apprenticeship for women, girls’ workshops and summer camps and we advocate for gender equity in living wage trades careers. From These Hands, LLC Sukita Reay Crimmel is the founder of From These Hands, LLC. Coming out of architecture school with a new found love of earthen building materials, Sukita headed to Portland to manifest her vision of bringing earthen building materials into existing and new homes. In 2007, after five years of designing and building various earthen projects, Sukita focused on learning the trade of laying earthen floors. In 2010 Sukita is starting a new adventure; Claylin, a bagged earthen floor mix. She is teaching workshops to help bring more contractors and homeowners into the knowledge of using this mix.
