ReUse is the New Recycle
Description
Millions of pounds of unwanted electronics are discarded in Oregon each year. There are toxic materials in many of these such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and hazardous chemicals that can leach into the soil harming human health as well as Oregon’s gorgeous environment. Many of the materials in electronics can be reused in new products if handled properly. When electronics are reused, energy and resources are conserved. These reusables can also be gifted to people and organizations that might otherwise struggle to afford them.
NextStep seeks to create a network of people and organizations committed to addressing the digital divide and the impact electronics waste has on our global environment.
As of January 1, 2010, the disposal of computers, monitors, and TVs is prohibited in Oregon.
