| position summary: | Do you enjoy teaching and love the outdoors? Check out the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s new opening for Outdoor Science Instructor! The Outdoor Science Instructor teaches natural science and natural resource management topics in various settings, including trailside, van-based, rafting, canoeing and field classrooms, to students and campers enrolled in OMSI’s field programs, residential outdoor science school and summer science camps and adventures. Work schedule varies depending on programming. This is an exempt camp position with benefits. Camp positions often involve extended hours and days worked. ACA time off standards will be met (2 hours off duty per day, and at least 24 hours off every 2 weeks in blocks of at least 12 hours). Room and board provided during programs, room only during non-programming work days, 1 hour per day expected when receiving room during non-work days. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in a natural science discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience, field instruction, outdoor school and/or previous camp experience, advanced First Aid and CPR, must be comfortable in a non-smoking, group environment, Wilderness First Responder and Life guard certification preferred, training available during non-working days at employee's expense, and good understanding of van and bus driving: Commercial Driver’s License required for driving, training available during non-working days at employee's expense, a valid driver’s license. A minimum 2 years of formal or informal teaching experience preferred and be able to pass pre-employment and/or pre-duty checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks, requirements in the MVR Policy including passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and Alcohol & Drug Test for non-CDL Drivers Policy, including pre-duty drug test.
