Seeking Host Families for Turkish/Egyptian/Saudi Students
Host a Student from Turkey, Egypt, or Saudi Arabia
Bring the World In! Build Bridges of Understanding By Hosting a Scholarship Student! The YES program (Youth Exchange & Study program) is an amazing program through the Department of State that awards full scholarships to a certain number of high school teens from countries with significant Muslim populations. This program is relatively new and is doing extremely well to bring down the barriers and stereotypes that we have about the Muslim world and vice versa. Over the next months, we are looking for families who are interested in hosting these incredible students. In these times, it is critical to build bridges of understanding between cultures, plus this is an exciting opportunity to ‘bring the world in’ and be part of a culture that no trip could ever provide. We work with such exotic and fascinating countries as Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Thailand and the Philippines.
In addition, it’s a way for a family to put into practice the values of openly accepting others and extending a helping hand. Host families will play an important role in exposing the students to first hand knowledge of concepts such as volunteerism and community action. The young person is sure to take home what they like about our society, and as a result, the exchange may have a far-reaching impact. Hosting a YES student is a two-way track enriching both the family and the student!
If you, or someone you know, are a candidate to host one of these remarkable students selected out of thousands that applied for their leadership potential, personality and maturity, please contact me as soon as possible so that I can tell you more about the YES program. End of May is my deadline for determining the host families.
