Neighborhood House SUN School Program Assistant, Cesar Chavez K-8 School: 12 hrs/week, Monday-Thursday, during ’11-12 Portland Public School year. Summary:
The Neighborhood House Cesar Chavez K-8 SUN School Program Assistant is primary support for the SUN School Coordinator and daily operation of SUN extended day activities. Position assists in overseeing the flow of SUN activities, 2:00-5:00pm. Assist with community outreach and coordination of activities with a variety of partner organizations. Position keeps track of SUN School class attendance records on a daily basis and communicates with parents about their child’s SUN School attendance. Program Assistant performs significant database entry work. Position acts as substitute instructor when SUN instructors are absent, and assists SUN School Coordinator with discipline and behavior management when necessary. Position coordinates after-school suppers program, providing meals for 100 students each day. Bilingual in Spanish or Somali and ability to translate and interpret orally in Spanish or Somali for families is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience working with children/youth. Or, Associate’s degree and three years of experience working with children/youth.
2. Experience working in a classroom setting with strong classroom management skills and natural leadership qualities.
3. Strong organizational and time management skills.
4. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
5. Ability to work effectively with youth, parents and diverse clientele (ethnic/racial backgrounds, income levels) in culturally competent manner.
6. Must be able to obtain valid Multnomah County Food Handler’s Permit.
7. Computer literate with strong data entry skills.
8. Must pass criminal background check as condition of employment.
9. Must possess valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, ability to be insured by the agency and to provide proof of personal automobile insurance.

Salary / Pay Rate:Starting pay range: $12.91-15.50/hr, non-exempt.
