Mission

Organizational Background

In 2002 the Center was the recipient of the City of Portland’s Pollution Prevention Award.  In 2005 the Center received Multnomah County’s Public Health Hero Award, and in 2006 the Center was honored with the national Pioneers of Precaution Award for its toxics reduction work with local municipalities.

For the past 13 years the Center has been a regional leader in toxics reform and has established effective programs at the grassroots, advocacy and policy levels.

We have a board of directors specifically recruited to lend needed expertise to our programs.  We are located in the heart of the Beaumont District in Northeast Portland and our office is in a storefront space that includes our EcoSafe Home Store.

The Position

Executive Director Responsibilities

Strategies will include leadership within a coalition of health and conservation groups, working with elected officials to promote legislation, working with public agencies, community organizing, and public education and outreach.

Qualifications

In addition to the leadership skills required to run a small non-profit, candidates   should possess the following skill sets and personal attributes:

An ability to comprehend and communicate complex subject matter  based upon sound science innovative approaches to growing the organization and promoting its mission flexibility and willingness to operate in many different aspects of the organization from lobbying in Salem to working with the public in our store and classes an ability to write and speak in a compelling manner strong planning, organizational,  budgeting, and  personnel management skills a mature and professional demeanor balanced with confidence, wisdom, and a sense of humor educational credentials commensurate with a position of this nature
