Internship Opportunity at the Oregon Fair Trade Campaign

The Oregon Fair Trade Campaign (ORFTC) is a statewide coalition of labor, environmental and human rights organizations working together on issues of international trade policy.  More information about ORFTC is available online at www.oregonfairtrade.org.

ORFTC seeks a summer Outreach & Mobilization Intern who will gain valuable first-hand experience in event organizing, coalition politics and community outreach.  

Responsibilities include:·Reaching out to labor unions, environmental nonprofits, student groups and community organizations to seek their endorsement of and participation in ORFTC programmatic work; Arranging speakers, scheduling stops and planning logistics for a speakers' tour that will travel the state starting in late August;·Updating a project website, and publicizing it on social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube and MySpace;·Advising in the development of any necessary outreach and mobilization materials; and·Completing other tasks as needed.

Successful candidates for this internship will be:·Self-motivated and able to work well independently;·Outgoing, personable and energetic;·Dependable and detail-oriented; and·Willing to write written updates and develop a contact database.

The following attributes are strong pluses:·Experience working in coalitions;·Willingness to stay involved as a part-time volunteer through the year;·A valid driver’s license and access to an automobile;·Fluency in Spanish.

This position is based in the ORFTC office in downtown Portland.  A full-time intern is preferred, but work hours are negotiable.  A small stipend may be available for an exceptionally-qualified candidate willing to work long hours. To apply, please email a cover letter and resume to [email protected].  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  No calls, please.
