About OFOSA Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals (OFOSA) is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the living conditions and adoptability of shelter animals. Our niche is rescuing medically fragile animals and community support through distribution of food and supplies. We have begun to expand our mission to include humane education this year.

OFOSA is experiencing significant growth with a targeted $1million dollar fundraising goal to support regional shelters (county and private) and rescue organizations. We have a volunteer base of 300 volunteers and growing.

Position Overview OFOSA is seeking a highly entrepreneurial leader to serve as the Development Director. S/he will deepen OFOSA’s impact and broaden its scope in the Portland metro area by driving success in development and fundraising, program management and growth, relationship cultivation, staff management, and operational effectiveness. S/he will leverage new and existing partnerships within the higher education, early education, and funding communities to achieve these ambitious goals and thus bring OFOSA closer to the day when every animal in the Portland metro area is spayed/neutered and the public is educated to this goal. The Development Director will also play an integral role on OFOSA’s Board and Management teams, developing organizational strategy, policy, and growth plans. This position is based out of OFOSA’s satellite office located in Hillsboro, Oregon.

We are seeking an experienced non-profit management professional with: • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to inspire and lead a team • Excellent communication and presentation skills • Demonstrated success in fundraising • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, management, and organizational governance • Experience developing and guiding advocacy campaigns • Experience creating and working within tight budgets

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR: DEVELOPMENT (60-70%) • Manage annual fund appeals, membership mailings and associated email/web strategies. • Identify and evaluate foundation, public funding and corporate grant prospects, maintain calendar of deadlines for grant proposals and reports. • Working collaboratively with Executive Director and Board Members, focus on donor stewardship, raising unrestricted gifts and corporate sponsorship appeals, grant development and individual board giving. o Increase major gifts ($500+). o Develop and implement major donor recognition activities. o Assist in expanding successful corporate sponsorship appeals. • Coordinate, track and develop quarterly reports on donor activity. • Facilitate work of the Development and Communication Teams. • Assist in identifying and cultivating potential new Board candidates fluent in fundraising and events. • Work closely with Executive Director to develop annual budgets for fundraising outreach activities. • Collaborate with Administrative and Volunteer Coordinator on product development and vendor relationships. • Provide support as needed in a small staff team environment.

Salary / Pay Rate:Part time (20 hours per week) $1000 per month

Qualifications:At least four years of experience in fundraising and development, including the development and implementation of strategic fundraising plans. Demonstrated success cultivating and growing a network of individual, corporate, government, and foundation donors, with evidence of securing gifts at the $10K and larger level. Strong communication, including written, public speaking and presentation skills, with evidence of successful relationship management and donor communications. Experience identifying, securing and managing local, regional and state government funding, highly desirable. Proven success in developing and implementing appeals through both traditional and emerging methodologies. A track record of successful foundation, corporate and government relationships, with a particular focus on the Portland Metro Area. Proven experience in the execution of high-quality and strategic special events. Excellent people management skills. Comprehensive development operations, systems, analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to plan and implement in demanding, fast-paced environment. Energetic, enthusiastic, team-player interested in growing within entrepreneurial environment. Commitment to OFOSA’s mission and values of quality, challenge, diversity, respect, and kindness. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
