Hospice volunteers wanted

Housecall Providers Hospice program will begin a new volunteer training series on October 6. We are seeking a group of dedicated volunteers to join us.

Housecall Providers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings primary care medical housecalls to homebound seniors and people with disabilities throughout the Portland metro area. Our hospice program serves our own patients who are near the end of life. Our goal is help our patients remain in their homes and communities with high-quality care, pain management and family support.

Hospice volunteers will receive comprehensive training with all the information they will need to be comfortable and prepared for their role. They perform a range of services that may include friendly visiting, reading to a patient, housekeeping, running errands, or providing respite care and family support.

Volunteers with all kinds of special skills, such as barbering/hair styling, massage or playing music are also needed. Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Housecall Providers will support our volunteers through individual and group meetings and debriefings. Hospice patients are seen in their homes. Visits are scheduled at the mutual convenience of the volunteer, patient and family.

Training will be in the Housecall Providers office on SE Belmont St. on June 14, 15, 21 and 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. for a total of twelve hours. If you are interested, please contact Mary Beth Weaver at 503 988-5336 X 704 or [email protected].
