The Office of Human Relations (OHR) works to eliminate discrimination and bigotry, strengthen inter-group relations, and foster greater understanding inclusion and justice in Portland. We are seeking a smart, driven, organized, energetic person with strong research, writing, and internet skills to assist our communications department. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a talented student or professional committed to human rights and social equity issues to gain experience working in a growing, fast-paced city government agency.

The Communications Intern will work closely with OHR's communications manager to provide support for the advancement of OHR’s program and priorities.

Internship Job Responsibilities: • Writing blog posts, letters to the editor, and articles about human rights issues/events that the OHR is working on. • Updating OHR's website. • Increasing OHR’s visibility by using social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter. • Updating OHR’s database of the organization’s media coverage. • Other responsibilities depending on our current campaigns.

Qualifications:• Bachelor's Degree in Communications and/or Journalism is strongly preferred. • Some journalism or communications experience preferred. • Desktop publishing and some HTML knowledge would be helpful but HTML experience is not required. • Experience with/interest in social media including Facebook, Twitter, etc. • A strong commitment to our human rights centered mission.
