Senior Activities Coordinator - Portland Impact

JOB SUMMARY:   Responsible for the promotion and coordination of multicultural activities to help clients who are seniors and adults with disabilities remain as active and independent as possible.  Primary responsibilities include outreach to high-need seniors and adults with disabilities and coordination of services including educational, social, skill building and health promotion activities.  Will provide transportation to program participants. 

Full time $12.20 to $13.94/hr

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  Develop, implement and expand outreach strategies for reaching a broader spectrum of seniors and/or adults with disabilities in need of social, recreational, health promotion and other educational information and activities;

Plan, coordinate and implement activities for health promotion, recreation, education, multicultural events and presentations promoting advocacy and community awareness at the SE Multicultural Service Center.  This includes responsibility for reserving meeting space and coordinating specified services such as thrift store shopping trips and related transportation needs.

Develop and maintain working relationships with agency partners and area educational institutions to present program activities in our center, including health promotion and intergenerational activities; 

Monitor center’s needs for volunteers, communicate this need to Community Involvement department, and oversee volunteers (including Easter Seals activities assistant) placed in the center;

Develop and make recommendations to the Transportation & Activities Program Supervisor for program improvements and enhancement regarding community involvement activities, including strategies to ensure the activities program’s financial stability;

Assist in the development and distribution of public relations materials for the  activities and health promotion programs; this includes the creation and bulk mailing of the monthly activities calendar;

Share responsibility for office coverage including crisis intervention;

Effectively work with individuals of diverse backgrounds;

Provide professional communication and leadership in a variety of meeting/ presentation settings that supports open, honest communication and inclusion of diversity;

Complete accurate, legible and timely documentation of service delivered in accordance with the agency’s information management system;

Monitor effectiveness of activities and meet program service standards set forth by the Transportation & Activities Program Supervisor regarding quantity, type and quality of services to be delivered to SE Multicultural Center participants.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely meet the following requirements

Associates degree or equivalent

Minimum of two years of experience in the human service field including experience coordinating recreational activities and/or programs to frail, low-income seniors and/or younger adults with disabilities

Valid driver’s license and history of safe driving; ability to drive a 14-passenger minibus

Education and training in activities coordination, volunteer management, community organizing or related human services field

Knowledge of issues and concerns relevant to the elderly and adults with disabilities

Computer skills in data entry, Microsoft Office (especially MS Access), e-mail and MS Publisher

Excellent coordinating and organizational skills, including the ability to engage a broad spectrum of community members in Portland Impact programs and activities

Ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks

Ability to communicate effectively, both speaking and in writing

Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles and cultures

Ability and willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Portland Impact.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Cross cultural knowledge and skills

Training in gerontology or related field

Bilingual in Spanish or Russian
