Renewable Northwest Project Seeks Interim Policy Director/Senior Staff Counsel

Renewable Northwest Project, the Northwest’s leading renewable energy advocacy organization, seeks a seasoned, committed individual to serve as Senior Staff Counsel of the organization.

About RNP: The Renewable Northwest Project (RNP) is a well-respected, regional, nonprofit advocacy organization promoting responsible development of wind, solar and geothermal resources in the Pacific Northwest. RNP’s member organizations include energy companies, environmental organizations, and consumer groups. RNP is a small, dynamic, and fun organization where staff works together with members and other stakeholders to move the region away from fossil fuels and toward a clean energy future. In the past 14 years, we have helped the region go from 0 to 2,300 megawatts of new, renewable resources. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: – First 6 months of position involves substituting for current RNP Policy Director during maternity leave. – Promoting statewide policy initiatives in two Northwest states. Manage contract staff. Work with member groups to plan and refine strategy and track legislation. Prepare and deliver testimony before legislative committees. – Manage RNP’s participation in priority state regulatory proceedings that can affect investment in future renewable resources, including identifying opportunities, preparing and delivering testimony and/or comments. Manage consultants. Coordinate with other staff and key allies. – Represent RNP in public venues including speaking at conferences and participating in issue work groups. – Respond to media inquiries on relevant issues. – Direct RNP’s workforce initiative to connect the employment needs of the renewable industry with educational programs at Northwest colleges and universities. – Coordinate and conduct briefings for RNP members and allies. – Assist in development of organizational materials, including foundation grant proposals. – Mobilize support for positive renewable energy policies. – Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline required and advanced degree preferred (J.D. M.A., etc.). At least 7-10 years experience in public policy, legal, utility or government settings. Some energy experience is desirable. Position requires excellent analytic, writing, and political skills. Ideal candidates will also have strong oral communications skills, especially the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences and to translate detailed, technical issues into lay terms. Must be able to juggle multiple tasks and to produce quickly in time-sensitive policy deliberations. Position involves some travel throughout Northwest states. Prefer applicant to start no later than December 1, to allow one month overlap with Policy Director.
