The Oregon Health Career Center, a local non-profit organization, is currently recruiting class leaders to teach a fun, hands-on science program to elementary school students. Classes are held after school, one day per week for 8 weeks. The Spring 2011 term begins the week of April 4, 2011.

A.K.A. Science is a hands-on, inquiry-based, after school science program for students in grades K-6. It uses structured yet playful hands-on activities to encourage observation of the world through exploration. A.K.A. Science Class Leaders receive training in innovative teaching methods and are provided with all teaching materials.

This is a temporary, part-time volunteer position. The time commitment is one hour per week for 8 weeks. Upon completion of our on-going evaluation study, you will be compensated with a $160.00 stipend. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the general duties.

Academic credit is offered through Portland State University or Pacific University. Professional Development Units are also available.

Qualifications:We seek applicants who are passionate about education and display a positive attitude. Previous experience with school-aged children is highly preferred. A background in science is not necessary. All applicants must be over the age of 18 and be willing to submit to a background check.
