America Walks, a National Walking Advocacy Group, Seeks Communications Intern

America Walks is a national not-for-profit organization working to make America a great place for walking.  The organization is seeking a communications intern to work 8-10 hours a week to assist in developing an outreach strategy to increase individual, corporate, and organization endorsements and build support for the Vision for a Walkable America.  America Walks has set the goal of signing on 500 organizations and 50,000 people to support this vision statement. 

To accomplish this, the intern will:

  • Develop an on-line media outreach strategy to build support for the Vision for a Walkable America;
  • Make recommendations for use of social media tools and website enhancements;
  • Develop written communications as needed to support goal and outreach efforts;
  • Conduct website improvements and updates as capable; and
  • Additional opportunities as mutually agreed upon.

This a minimum 4-month position and would begin immediately. This is an unpaid position; it may include a reimbursement stipend for accumulated expenses such as phone calls. The intern will report directly to the Director of America Walks who is based in Portland, Oregon, however, the intern can work remotely from another location.

Intern candidates should have demonstrated experience (classroom is fine) in developing communication plans with set timelines and goals, as well as demonstrated written communication skills.  Knowledge of and experience with using social media to accomplish the organizational goals is a plus.
