Communications & Marketing Internship - paid
DESCRIPTION DePaul Industries, an entreprenurial nonprofit organization dedicated to creating employment opportunities for people with disabilities, is looking for a well-rounded, enthusiastic intern who is eager to learn more about various aspects of Public Relations, Marketing, and Nonprofit Social Enterprise—including creating marketing materials, writing press releases and blog posts, managing social media, and more.
GENERAL INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The intern will learn about and support DePaul Industries internal and external communication efforts, critical to raising awareness for the organization through media, marketing, website, and social media presence. This internship will be designed to help the intern learn about nonprofit and business communications and marketing through hands-on project based experience. Communication efforts will support both the nonprofit development department as well as the business-driven sales department.
For over 40 years, DePaul Industries has focused on its vision of changing the landscape of employment of people with disabilities while growing into the Northwest's most comprehensive outsourcing specialist. DePaul helps people with disabilities to have the opportunity to work through a self-sustaining business model that generates more than 97% of revenue through the operation of three core businesses: food packaging & contract manufacturing, temporary staffing services, and security services. To date, DePaul has trained or employed in excess of 15,000 people with disabilities and paid wages and benefits of more than $200 million.
BASIC INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION/DUTIES
• Help develop and design marketing materials and effective website content
• Write powerful stories for use in blogs, newsletters, media releases, e-blasts, and fundraising campaigns
• Manage social media efforts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
• Work with internal and external constituents to develop activities which support DePaul Industries' mission & growth
• Research opportunities for new media coverage, especially on the web
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
Location & Hours
This internship will be based at DePaul Industries' headquarters at 4950 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd in NE Portland. A minimum of 15 hours per week is required; however, specific days/hours are flexible and can be negotiated. This internship pays a stipend, and class credit if applicable.
Start & End Dates
This internship is available to start at the beginning of December. A minimum commitment of ten weeks is preferred.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Prefer an individual that is pursuing or has recently completed a four-year degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field.
Job Experience
Previous nonprofit and communications experience preferred.
Special Knowledge and Skills
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
• Interest in social enterprise and/or the nonprofit sector
• Outstanding organizational and follow-through skills
• Strict attention to detail
• Tech-savvy with experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Programs, Wordpress, and social media
• Some HTML/CSS experience preferred, but not essential
