Literacy Services Lead
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Literacy Services Lead Coordinates English language learning (ELL) services for adults enrolled in SE Works' WorkSource Center. Additionally, this position recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
ELL
Facilitate all aspects of English learning services including one-on-one tutoring, computer labs, weekly English clubs, conversation potlucks, and content-based workshops
Coordinate intake of 80+ students and support efforts of 40+ volunteer tutors
Facilitate initial and ongoing assessments of student progress
Recruit, screen, and train potential volunteer tutors
Coordinate volunteer retention and recognition activities; facilitate tutor trainings
Develop instructional resources and materials for ESL program
Collaborate with WS staff to administer and evaluate ESL services
Ensure all data is entered timely and accurately
Other duties as assigned
VOLUNTEER SUPPORT
Administer organization-wide volunteer efforts (e.g. monthly reports, quarterly newsletter, annual recognition ceremony)
Set and maintain high standards for volunteers at SE Works, as well as evaluate and report on volunteer program efforts
Represent SE Works at community events and meetings in a professional manner
Recruit volunteers for SE Works projects, as needed
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in education, social sciences, or related field; TESL certification preferred
Ability to inspire and engage volunteers from the community
Experience teaching English language learners
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented, critical thinker, and ability to multi-task
Experience supervising and supporting multiple volunteers
Knowledge of English assessment and instructional theories and practices
National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) preferred
Ability to pass a background check
POSITION STATUS
Part-time (32 hours/week, potential to go full-time), contingent on funding
$14 per hour, with benefits
