The Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations (APNBA) supports the city’s business districts, which together comprise more than 20,000 businesses and 100,000 local jobs. In 2011, APNBA celebrates 25 years of service to Portland’s neighborhood business districts.

APNBA’s Marketing Manager must be a compelling storyteller, able to express the importance of neighborhood business districts as a driver for Portland’s identity and economic growth. A master of all things on-line including established and emerging social media platforms. A PR pro with a track record of securing significant earned media. A multi-tasker able to pitch both APNBA and business districts. A message guru, comfortable designing and disseminating talking points. And an experienced and engaging trainer.

The Marketing Manager works directly with the Executive Director to support Portland’s neighborhood business districts by marketing and promoting business district identity, events, and economic value to Portlanders, government, and the media.

Specific Responsibilities
•Help business districts market and promote events, activities, and community impact by providing technical assistance through trainings, hands-on work in the field, and sharing best practices around on-line communication, social and earned media, message development and discipline, and branding.
•Manage APNBA’s brand; ensure cohesive messaging across all communication channels and secure coverage for organization and member business districts. Work with ED, Operations Manager, and branding consultant to produce and distribute branding case study to members; facilitate business district branding efforts.
•Build and maintain a robust media list; create and distribute a media outreach kit (including deadlines, pitch requirements, contacts, and impressions) to business districts.
•Work with ED to create an annual media/communications plan. Secure consistent, positive media coverage for APNBA and Portland’s business districts.
•Manage total Web site overhaul based on organizational and member needs. If appropriate, work with ED to produce RFP and manage consultants. Leveraging new site, implement electronic newsletter, events calendar, and ongoing social media campaign.
•Implement communications partnerships as appropriate ensuring wide distribution of information about APNBA and business districts to meet organization’s communications goals.
•Work with Operations Manager to grow membership and subscription databases; evaluate current bulk email provider and make changes as appropriate.

Salary / Pay Rate:$25,000-$28,500/year plus benefits (30 hours/week)

Required Skills and Abilities:•Commitment to APNBA’s mission and values and to serving, supporting, and growing recognition of Portland’s neighborhood business districts •Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a sometimes chaotic and deadline-driven environment •Strong emphasis on professionalism •Proven understanding of Portland’s media environment and strong relationships with reporters, editors, and publishers •Excellent communication skills including writing, editing, and proofreading •Ability to work with diverse constituents; proven experience as a trainer •Proven experience securing significant earned media across outlets •Exceptional computer skills including in-depth knowledge of Excel, relational databases, bulk email tools, social media platforms, web site best practices, HTML •Comfort and experience working with communications/design consultants •Ability to work independently and as a team member •Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills •Community organizing and event management experience a plus •At least 2 years marketing experience •Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
