OMSI Program Development Internship - Sherlock Holmes Exhibit
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is seeking a Program Development Intern for The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes. This is an unpaid position which may be completed for school credit. It offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to be involved in many aspects of program and curriculum development at OMSI. This position is available immediately, and will remain open until filled.
Internship Summary:
The Program Development Intern will develop a literature guide for middle school and high school students to accompany The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes, opening at OMSI in October 2013. The intern will work with the curriculum developer to incorporate the literature guide into the Sherlock Holmes educational materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Develop one middle school/high school literature guide based on the Sherlock Holmes exhibit. The guide will include 2-4 lesson plans for teachers.
* Work with OMSI educators and curriculum developer to create literature connections to science-based classroom activities around the Sherlock Holmes exhibit as necessary.
* Research accurate science and English literature information.
* Interact with visitors to prototype activities.
Knowledge/Skills:
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
* Extremely organized, detail oriented, and a team player.
* Excellent work ethic and ability to work independently.
* Dependable and punctual, and willing to commit to a schedule.
* Self-directed and willing to take initiative.
* Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Experience conducting academic and/or professional research.
* Able to create and present literature lessons in an engaging way to middle and high school students.
* Familiarity and interest in Sherlock Holmes literature and culture preferred.
* Familiarity with National English Literature Standards preferred.
Education and Work Experience:
* Working toward or have completed a Bachelor's degree in English or education field
* Experience working with middle school and/or high school students preferred
Time Commitment:
Minimum of 15 hours per week for 10 weeks.
