position summary:

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is seeking an interim Outdoor Science Camp Program Coordinator to successfully run OMSI Outdoors programs, including Outdoor School, Summer Science Camp and Family Weekends. Position would be responsible for curriculum content and quality, summer camp counselor supervisor. Includes administration, scheduling, supervision, instruction, and may include cooking, and maintenance, depending on the season and in-camp needs, and on-site responsibility for all aspects of site, staff, and program maintenance, safety, content, logistics, expenditure, legality, process, and any other aspects of camps operation to insure a high-quality, safe, and well-functioning entity as per OMSI’s Mission Statement and Core Values. Please note that this position is not located at OMSI, but at our Hancock Field Station camp, located in Fossil, Oregon. This position requires extended hours and days worked. ACA time-off standards will be met (i.e. 2 hours off duty per day and at least 24 hours off every 2 weeks), room and board is provided, and work may average 6 day per week during peak operating season. Short weeks will occur during non-programming times.

Candidate must have thorough knowledge of natural sciences including: geology, ecology and paleontology, marine biology, depending on site, working knowledge of learning styles and instructional strategies, field program instruction and safety, excellent communications skills; both oral and written, have computer and administration skills related to financial and human resource duties, and must be comfortable in a non-smoking, group environment.

Candidate must also have a Bachelor’s Degree in natural science, education or environmental studies or equivalent combination of work experience and education, a minimum 2 year’s formal or informal teaching experience, a Valid Driver’s license (Driving is required for this position), Wilderness First Responder and Life Guard certification, basic understanding of bus driving: Commercial Driver’s License (training for the CDL is made available by the employer but at the employee’s expense), and must pass pre-employment and/or pre-duty checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks, American Camp Association (ACA) background checks (& on annual basis), requirements in the MVR Policy including passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and Alcohol & Drug Test for non-CDL Drivers Policy, including pre-duty drug test. A minimum 1 year leadership, supervisory or management experience and field instruction, outdoor school and/or previous camp experience is preferred.

Pay: $23,945 – 29,328 per year.
