position summary:

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is seeking a temporary, part-time Public Relations Coordinator who will perform critical support tasks working with OMSI’s Public Relations Manager. This position is responsible for responding to media requests, tracking coverage, hosting press, and developing press materials.

The ideal candidate will have, but not limited to, strong customer service skills, including people skills, advanced writing and editing skills with knowledge of AP style, ability to think creatively, ability to identify what drives news and compels the media, excellent judgment, discretion, and sense of diplomacy, exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, ability to remain calm in a high pressure environment, and self-initiative to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines, including taking on new challenges.

Candidate must also have a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and/or Public Relations or equivalent combination of experience and education, minimum 1 year of coordination and project management skills, working knowledge of media relations practices, minimum 3 years of experience in public relations field, including internships, valid driver’s license, and pass pre-employment and/or pre-duty checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks, and requirements in the MVR Policy including passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and Alcohol & Drug Test for non-CDL Drivers Policy, including pre-duty drug test. Experience in fast-paced organization and/or agency, Journalistic training or background, proficiency in Cision, familiarity with Meltwater New, bilingual in Spanish/English, and experience working with volunteers is preferred.

Pay Rate: $14.15 - $17.69 per hour.
