POSITION OVERVIEW
Basic Rights Oregon seeks one part-time Trans Justice Fellow beginning in April 2011 and continuing through October 2011. The Trans Justice Fellow reports to the Field Manager.

The Trans Justice Fellowship is an entry level organizing position. The Fellow is primarily responsible for recruiting new volunteers, building and mobilizing diverse volunteer teams, and working to support a campaign for accessible health care for transgender Oregonians. The position will involve in-state travel and will receive significant support in developing and carrying out their work.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Commitment to social justice, especially to ending homophobia and transphobia, and to working across lines of identity
• Commitment to building a multi-racial team; experience working in multi-racial environments
• Previous student, issue, electoral, community or labor organizing experience
• Experience working within transgender communities
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve; to work as part of a fast-paced team; and to manage a variety of projects simultaneously
• Computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Comfortable and compelling when speaking to small and large groups
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Driver’s license, ability to travel, and ability to work evenings and weekends

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Recruit volunteers both one-on-one and in large groups at community events and meetings
• Train and manage volunteer teams charged with taking action for trans justice
• Motivate, mobilize and retain a diverse pool of trans and allied activists to take action for trans justice
• Maintain administrative systems necessary to track volunteer participation
• Coordinate transportation, logistics, and recruitment for statewide volunteer events
• Seek out and attend community events and meetings, primarily on evenings and weekends
• Prepare written weekly and quarterly work plans and progress reports
• Perform other duties as assigned
