Artist in Residence - Fellowship Announcement

ART INSTRUCTOR FELLOWSHIP

The Youth Music Project is offering a $5,000 Artist in Residence Fellowship for an art instructor to lead innovative art classes for YMP's summer music camps for kids in West Linn, Wilsonville, and the surrounding communities. This position reports to YMP's Program Coordinator and will teach full time (Monday -- Friday) every other week starting June 24th, 2013 and ending on August 23rd, 2013. All of YMP's summer camps take place at YMP's headquarters located at 2015 8th Avenue, West Linn, Oregon 97068. The equivalent pay for this position would be approximately $25 per hour for 40 hours per week of class time. THE ORGANIZATION

The Youth Music Project is a nonprofit music school organized under the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation. YMP's mission is to bring music education opportunities to students in our community regardless of each family's ability to pay. The Youth Music Project is designed to complement existing offerings in schools with innovative, cutting edge music instruction focused on rock, country and pop music. YMP accomplishes its mission through a combination of afterschool lessons, educational school assemblies, summer camps, and free instrument rentals for students eligible for free or reduced lunch. With grant and community support, YMP is able to offer all of its programs on a sliding scale based on the free or reduced lunch program. Innovative Art Curriculum

The Youth Music Project's Art Instructor will be in charge of developing and implementing innovative art classes for youth K-12. All art projects should relate directly to each summer camps' musical theme (KISS, Beatles, Elvis, Taylor Swift, and the 80's). Examples of potential art projects include: painting Velvet Elvis portraits, designing personalized KISS cartoon characters, recreating John Lennon's art, making tie dye t-shirts, screen printing t-shirts, designing concert posters, making buttons, etc. Class sizes will range from 6 to 12 students per instructor.

The Art Instructor's job duties will include the following:

Developing an innovative art curriculum for youth grades K-12
Identify and locate materials required for all art classes
Work with campers to create art based on the camp's theme
Help direct volunteer art assistants in classes
Present student art work at end of camp recitals
Respond to student / parent inquiries
Set up and prepare classrooms as necessary
Help insure general cleanliness at headquarters
Other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Experience teaching art to youth of various ages
Ability to pass a strict FBI background check
Demonstrated track record showing self-motivation and leadership
Impeccable reputation for honesty and trustworthiness
Positive outlook and collaborative disposition

Preferred:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Fluency in Spanish
