Riverfest Willamette Parade of the Species

As part of the first Portland Riverfest, join with your fellow greater-Portlanders for the first Willamette Species Parade.

Come celebrate all the species of the Willamette River in this fun, participant-heavy parade! Participate in pre-parade workshops to make costumes, puppets, masks, human-powered floats and anything else you can think of (materials provided). All are welcome!

 

Parade details:

Time/date: 12:30PM, August 30th

Place: Starting at Waterfront Park near the Hawthorne Bridge.

Route: North in Waterfront Park crossing the Steel Bridge then South along the Eastbank Esplanade to Salmon where we will enjoy music and a celebration with Gallery Homeland.

position summary:

The Oregon League of Conservation Voters Education Fund is looking for motivated phone canvassers to help educate voters in the Portland and Bend areas about environmental issues as part of a program designed to increase their participation in voting for lower-ballot candidates in the 2008 election. No fundraising involved.

The position starts as soon as you are hired and lasts up to 4 weeks in duration. Because of the focus on direct voter contact, this job will take place between 5-9 pm, five days/week. Following completion of this project, there will be similar employment opportunities with OLCV-EF’s sister organization, the Oregon League of Conservation Voters.

Salary / Pay Rate:Pay starts at $12/hour with wage increases after completion of two weeks.

LEP High School: Night school learning opportunity

LEP High School is starting a fantastic new (and free) night school program for young people who have fallen behind in credits. This is an alternative opportunity for out-of-school youth who are not enrolled in day school and may have responsibilities such as parenting or work during the day.

Please feel free to pass on this information to anyone who might find it helpful. Enrollment is ongoing.

Register Today! "Ready To Rent" Instructor Training - Space is Limited

Teach clients to overcome typical rental screening barriers with Ready To Rent!

The next Certified Instructor Training will be held September 23-24, 9:00am-4:00pm and September 25, 9:00am-1:00pm. Training will be located at the Portland Housing Center, 3233 NE Sandy Blvd.

Registration fee: $350 for agencies located in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, and Clark counties. Fee includes all training materials and continental breakfast. Work with Diverse Teenage Children as a Health Mentor with MIKE Program

Develop cultural engagement skills and enhance behavioral and social science service skills serving as a caring adult in a group of diverse teenage children engaged in MIKE Program in the Portland Metro area. MIKE Program--Multicultural Integrated Kidney Education Program-- is a community non-profit organization serving in the Portland Metro area. Our mission is to empower youth to be ambassadors of health in service to their diverse communities through mentorship, partnership, and the promotion of healthy kidneys.

Portland Radio Authority seeks electricians

Portland Radio Authority (http://praradio.org/mainpage.htm), a nonprofit community radio (on the internet) station dedicated to giving a media outlet to local musicians and artists, is in the process of securing a space for a new studio. Volunteer at the OMSI Reptile and Amphibian Show!

OMSI still needs a few more volunteers for the Reptile and Amphibian Show over Labor Day Weekend.

With nearly 200 assorted animals, it’s one of the largest reptile and amphibian shows in the Pacific Northwest. Visitors can check out a live animal demo, get “hands-on” in our special Reptile Handling Area, and learn from adult and youth experts.

There are 3 volunteer shifts available each day: 9:00 - 12:30, 12:00 - 3:30, and 3:00 - 7:00. Saturday the 30th, Sunday the 31st, and Monday the 1st
