Volunteer for the Campaign for Safe Food!

Staff at the Campaign for Safe Food work to discontinue the use of bovine growth hormone (rBGH or rbST) in dairy products in Oregon as well as nationwide. rBGH is a genetically engineered hormone sold to farmers and injected into dairy cows to increase their milk production. Among other things, rBGH has been correlated with an increase in fertility problems in cows, lower birth weights in calves, increased somatic cell count in milk (pus), and increased rates of mastitis (udder infections). Not only is this an animal welfare issue but these problems can result in a greater amount of antibiotic use in dairy herds, contributing to antibiotic resistance in humans.
