Monday, February 9, 2009 at 6:15 PM Hollywood Library (4040 NE Tillamook St, Portland, OR 97212) In the Community Room in the back right corner of the library

Film Synopsis

Doing Time, Doing Vipassana is the story of how hope came to one of the most notorious prisons in the world: Tihar Jail in New Delhi. It is the story of India's first woman Inspector General of Prisons, Kiran Bedi, and how she dared to fight for genuine rehabilitation of the thousands under her care. Most of all, it is the story of the prison inmates themselves, and the profound changes they underwent through the practice of Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N.Goenka.

Q & A

Nonprofit looking for discounted printing services

Dear CNRG community,

I am looking for possible Portland metro resources for discounted, charitable or free printing services for nonprofits and/or community organizations.  If anyone knows of such a resource please contact me.  Transition PDX, a growing community of people working to address the dual challenges of climate change and peak oil is seeking help in printing flyers so the word can get out and people can get involved.  For more information on the transition model see www.transitionpdx.org or http://transitiontowns.org/ Thanks!

Replicating an after-school program in a rural town

I am considering starting an after-school program for a high school in a small rural town along the Columbia River Gorge. I've come across many wonderful organizations in the Portland area as well as nationally that have great programs but none that are interested in expanding.

I'd rather not start something from scratch since there are so many proven programs up and running already. I'm not looking for a parent organization to provide funding but I would like to find a group that is interested in expanding their framework/model so that I dont have to "re-create the wheel."

Volunteering

Get on the bus! Project Linkage is looking for drivers.

Older adults in the community rely on passenger vehicles to get out and about. We at Project Linkage, a program of Metropolitan Family Service, enlist volunteers to help seniors stay independent in their homes for as long as possible. In the words of one passenger, “Without Project Linkage, I couldn’t be living here. I’d have to sell my home and move someplace else.”

Project Linkage runs a popular shopping shuttle most weekdays. Currently, we are looking for a driver to operate a shopping route Wednesday and/or Thursday every week.

The vehicle is ours, but the benefit is everyone's.
