Bereavement Support Group at William Temple House

Losing a loved one can be the most challenging experience of our lives; sharing that pain can be the first step toward healing.

In this 7-week, small group setting we will share memories of our loved ones and discuss issues around grief such as self-care, dealing with friends, co-workers and relatives, and special considerations associated with the cause of death (e.g illness, accident, suicide).

Time: Wednesdays 2-3:30pm, March 11 - Apr 22

Cost: Free

Location: William Temple House, 2023 NW Hoyt St, Portland

Sunnyside Environmental Middle School Open House

Sunnyside Environmental School is a community of students, educators, parents, neighbors, and alumni, working together to create a safe, nurturing, and educationally excellent learning environment for young people. We are a small urban public K-8 school drawing students from all of Portland's diverse neighborhoods. We are actively teaching and learning a holistic, integrated curriculum. Exploring themes of our many overlapping environments, students develop academic knowledge and skills while demonstrating personal and social responsibility for all living systems.

Free Summer Camp - Salmon Stewardship Summit

Salmon Stewardship Summit: Russian and American International Environmental Exchange Camp

Date: July 22nd - August 2nd, 2009

Place: Camp Arrah Wanna, OR

Who: Russian and American students ages 14-17

Students interested in challenging themselves on a new level are encouraged to apply for the FREE Salmon Stewardship Summit, a 12 day residential camp program with a focus on environmental stewardship & leadership.

Summary: Plans, organizes, and coordinates technical assistance and training activities with agencies, groups and individuals. Manage grants and programs related to TA/T.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Manage grants related to TA/T including the EC Brown grant and others as developed.

Manage mini-grant program including RFP development, grantee selection and ongoing support

Work with other staff in preparing grant proposals to support TA/T program.

Implement the Network TA/T plan to improve the skills and the ability of school-based health center staff.

Develop consulting services for SBHCs encompassing community engagement to site development and expansion.

Salary / Pay Rate:$14-16 per hour/DOE 20-25 hours per week

Looking for D.B. Cooper

Wanted: actor to play the role of the legendary skyjacker D.B. Cooper for appearances during the 2009 Portland Rose Festival season. You'll do several sightings with little to no public interaction throughout Portland and the metropolitan area (dates to be determined later). You will also appear in the Keybank Grand Floral Parade on June 6th. The character of D.B. Cooper is 5'10" to 6', 170 to 180 pounds, in his 40's with brown eyes and short black hair.

There is pay for the role.

MS Access Programmer

The Coalition of Community Health Clinics seeks to contract with an MS-Access Programmer on a flexible part time basis to support 8 community health clinics in Portland.

Potential duties will include: updating current Access databases, adding additional functionality by creating additional, data fields and updating related user interfaces, mining data and general database maintenance.

We are seeking a contractor who can be flexible with hours, willing to travel within Portland and is able to assess clinic data needs, define requirements and implement solutions. Health care experience would be helpful. Contractor must sign Business Associate Agreement ensuring patient confidentiality.

Volunteer Proposal Reviewers Needed for NAAEE 2009

Help the North American Association for Environmental Education review proposals for our October 2009 conference in Portland! It's a great opportunity to learn more about what's going on in environmental education and to get involved with NAAEE!

Reviewer Information

NAAEE will organize teams of knowledgeable reviewers for each strand of the conference. Proposals will be peer reviewed by three reviewers, following a uniform review criteria set in advance. Reviewed proposals for the Annual Conference will receive a final round of review by strand leaders. This careful process aims to ensure quality and an overall balance of views in the Annual Conference presentations.

Oregon Academic Decathlon Volunteers

The 2009 Oregon Academic Decathlon state competition will be held at the end of February at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.

Volunteers are needed to serve as judges for the speech or interview events on Friday, February 27th in the University's Education Building. The time commitment is from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.

No prior experience or expertise is required as training (and snacks!) will be provided.

This is a great opportunity to help Oregon's high school students participate in a prestigious, nationwide academic program. The winner of the competition will represent Oregon at the USAD National Finals in Memphis, TN in April.

Please come help students realize their potentials and make Oregon proud.

Come share, build, and practice your skills by volunteering your time with us!

We are looking for mentors who are willing to help Eastern European Youth.  Mentors will spend one and a half hours a week helping with homework and English, talking about school, life, and the youth's future.

Save Lives & Make a Difference- become a Ride On Volunteer Driver

RideOn Portland is a SE based 501(c)3 non-profit that seeks to eliminate drunk driving in Portland by providing designated drivers to get the client and his/her car home safely.

We are currently looking for driving & dispatch volunteers. Our operating hours are Friday & Saturday from 11pm to 3am. Here's how it works: We receive a call from an impaired driver. Two volunteers are dispatched to the caller's location. One volunteer drives the client & his/her vehicle safely home, while the other volunteer follows in a RideOn vehicle. Once the ride is complete, both volunteers return to base or onto their next ride.

MSW volunteer needed

The Coalition of Community Health Clinics, a network of 13 non-profit safety net clinics serving low income and uninsured patients, is seeking a Master’s of Social Work volunteer.

This position would supervise graduate level social work students who are placed within clinics performing referral coordination and patient supports services. Up to 3 hours a week required with flexible schedule. Must have a Master’s of Social Work degree for 2 years and be willing to support students in their field placements.
