Portland Clowns Without Borders Benefit Show: March 20th

New Vaudeville, Modern Circus, Extremely Funny Physical Theater!

The 12th annual Portland extravaganza to benefit non-profit Clowns Without Borders is coming up on Friday, March 20th at 7:30pm at the Da Vinci Middle School Theater, 2508 NE Everett, Portland. The best of new vaudeville and modern circus to fund two Portland-led Clowns Without Borders projects in Haiti.

"Conflict in Congo" speaker event

Amnesty International USA Group 48 and the Congolese Community of Oregon (CCO) will present a panel discussion about the conflict in the Congo on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 7:30 PM at the First Unitarian Church, 1011 SW 12th Avenue, Portland, OR.

Led by Portland area residents from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the panel will highlight the human rights abuses from the ongoing conflict in the DRC, such as displacements of thousands, violence against women and children, and the role of natural resources in the conflict.

Field Assistants for Wetland Invertebrate Assessment Project

Summary of position The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation is seeking to hire two reliable individuals to assist in sampling invertebrates in wetlands in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Prior experience is a plus, but all necessary training will be provided by the Project Leaders. This position is full-time for 5 weeks, beginning April 27, 2009 and ending June 1, 2009. Applicants must be available for the entire 5 week period. Approximately 80% of the time will be spent in the field, especially from about May 4 onwards. Field work will involve non-standard work weeks, long days, and some overnight travel.

What: Join The Forest Park Conservancy as we continue the 60th anniversary celebration of Forest Park's dedication and the first day of spring with a community-wide volunteer work party! Our 2008 events rallied over 165 volunteers at each event, and we are hoping for an even larger turnout this time around. We will be working at four sites within Forest Park; Upper Macleay, Birch Trail head at 53rd, Springville Road/Firelane 7 and the Linnton Neighborhood. Projects will focus on invasive species removal, native plantings and possible trail work.
