Bereavement Support Group at William Temple House

Losing a loved one can be the most challenging experience of our lives; sharing that pain can be the first step toward healing.

In this 7-week, small group setting we will share memories of our loved ones and discuss issues around grief such as self-care, dealing with friends, co-workers and relatives, and special considerations associated with the cause of death (e.g illness, accident, suicide).

Time: Wednesdays 2-3:30pm, March 11 - Apr 22

Cost: Free

Earth Advantage Earth Day Run

April 25, 2009

By partnering with Friends of Trees, we hope you will enjoy this run celebrating the wonder of life on our planet & join others in peaceful thoughts & prayers to nurture neighbor & nature. This event will include some booths focusing around health, wellness, sustainable living, or energy efficient education, products & options. The 10K & 5K run/walk will go through a piece of Cook Park to ensure nature has a place in this run. And not to be left out, “man’s best friend” can participate in the 5K doggy walk to ensure everyone in the family gets exercise.

Live music will be available at the end of the race along with snacks & beverages.

Introduction to the LEED for Homes program

March 24, 2009 8AM - 10AM

LEED for Homes is a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high performance green homes. Benefits of a LEED home include lower energy and water bills, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and healthier indoor air quality. LEED certification recognizes and rewards builders for meeting the highest performance standards, providing homeowners with the confidence that their homes are durable, healthy, and environmentally friendly.

Advanced Grantwriting course at PSU begins soon

Michael Wells will be teaching an Advanced Grantwriting course at Portland State University during Spring Term. The class will use his three books on grant strategy, nonprofit finances, and program evaluation as well as general discussion of the field. There will be lots of guest speakers on these topics and others.

The class is open to grantwriters with one or more years of experience, or students who have taken a basic grants class from Michael or elsewhere. The class will be all day on alternate Wednesdays April 1, 15, 29, and May 13 & 27.

Make an impact in a young girl's life!

Impact Northwest is seeking a female volunteer mentor between the ages of 18-30 who loves to be active, enjoys art, conversation and connects well with middle school youth. Meet one-on-one with your mentee for one hour each week on the school premises between 2:30 and 5:00pm. Leave No Plastic Behind - Part Time Office Assistant

Be part of a team that oversees day to day activities at LNPB headquarters such as artwork drop off, workshop sign ups and general Q&A. The position can be tailored to fit a particular area of interest with some freedom to work independently on ongoing projects of your choice (see www.lnpb.org for current project details).

Help brainstorm and teach plastic craft workshops and/or be there to assist other instructors. Classes may be for children or adults and creative ideas are welcomed!

Estimated commitment: 3hrs/month + prep time as needed.

Experience needed: Participation in a LNPB art exhibit or experience in environmental and/or art education preferred.
