Nationally-Recognized Senior Advocate, Nona Bear, to Host Two Free Events in Portland

First join us to discuss issues of national health and Medicare reform that could affect us right here in Oregon and then encourage seniors to come and hear about how to “Be your own health care advocate”. Both events will be led by Nona Bear, nationally-recognized advocate of health care reform and champion of senior’s issues.

At the first meeting, learn about trends in senior health care including the current landscape, innovation, and what’s to come in the future.

"Soup to Go!" A monthly event to benefit the R.O.Y. Project

YOUTH PROGRESS R.O.Y. PROJECT LAUNCHES "SOUP TO GO" DAY Portland non-profit Youth Progress Association (YPA) will be holding their first Soup Day sale to benefit the R.O.Y project, YPA’s vocational training program. The event will be held at the organization’s office lobby at 604 SE Water Street on Thursday, March 19th from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The R.O.Y. project (Recovering Oregon Youth) is our vocational training program which includes the soup project, designed to help lower-functioning youth gain work experience and practice social skills in a supportive environment and easing their transition into employment outside of YPA. The young adults in R.O.Y. have created their soup in a tube product from design, to recipes, packaging and marketing.

Recovering Oregon Youth (ROY) Soup Sale! $3 Lunch!

Thursday, March 19th from 11-1pm Youth Progress Association 604 SE Water Ave (corner of Water and Washington) Portland OR 97214

The R.O.Y. (Recovering Oregon Youth) Project is a sheltered workshop designed to help lower-functioning youth gain work experience and practice social skills in a supportive environment, easing the transition into a volunteer position and eventually out into the workplace. By taking ownership in all aspects of the creation of "soup in a tube" from recipes they have created to production and distribution youth learn workplace responsibility and are given the opportunity to take pride in their work.

Filmed by Bike is a festival of bike-themed movies from around the world. The festival is April 17-23 at the Clinton Street Theater. This year's program features 50+ short bike movies. The event is a fundraiser for the Multnomah County Bike Fair.

Volunteer registration is now open for the 2009 festival. Register early to get the timeslot you want.

The opening night is Friday, April 17. We also have some positions open for Saturday.

=========== FREE MOVIES =========== Volunteers who are 21+ get into the Friday night screenings for free! Volunteers who are under 21 can get a free DVD.
