Social Innovation Forum for Sustainability

If you are an individual who has an innovative idea to meet a social need, of if you are in a nonprofit looking for new ways to think about what you are doing, this Forum is for you. We will explore: alternative models for funding nonprofits, collaboration and partnership, resources and opportunities. Featured speakers include: Amy Pearl, Springboard Innovation; Jolene Estimo, Warm Springs Tribes; Amy Sacks, Pixie Project; Shane Endicott, the Rebuilding Center; Randy White, Bright Neighbor; John Sorenson, N2E and many others.

On Saturday, June 20, 2009, celebrate the Forest Park Conservancy's 20th Anniversary by running 20 miles in Forest Park! The awe-inspiring trail run will take you along the scenic Wildwood trail; beginning at Germantown Road and finishing at Lower Macleay Park. When finished you will feel good knowing that not only did you just run 20 miles, but the $500 you raised as a requirement for your participation will go towards keeping Forest Park’s trails clear, safe and in good condition for you to run now and for years to follow.

The World Famous Kenton Club will be throwing open its doors to host the beer-iest, BBQ-iest, bike-dance-troupe-iest benefit of 2009.Featuring:Cap Ducal, The Bad Assets, and Les Estrangers Bicycle dance guest:Chain ReactionPrizes:Fatty gift certificates for fancy clothes, spas, wine tastings, beer and more.

Regional Arts and Culture Council Workshop - 3/28/09

The Balancing Act: Making Art & Making Money Saturday, March 28, 2009; 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Most artists would prefer to be making art rather than doing business, and often resent the time spent on promoting their work. This four hour workshop will give you useful and immediately useable insights into the how to of marketing. Beginning with how to talk about your work, the tools you can use to promote interest in it, the simple process of sales, and ending with tips on how to organize your efforts. By making their promotional efforts efficient and effective artists can enjoy more time for their art; get the balance right! Presenter: Bob Sterry. Fee: $30. Experience the rewards of making a difference in a child’s life!

Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization’s (IRCO) David Douglas Mentoring Project (DDMP) is seeking energetic volunteer mentors interested in supporting  elementary and middle school students who would benefit from interactions with a caring adult.

DDMP is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches a student from the David Douglas School District with an adult mentor from the community.  Students selected for the program are those with highest needs (low academic performance, behavior issues, language and cultural barriers) and could benefit from having a positive role model.

sSign up to participate in the 7th annual Comcast Cares Day and join more than 1600 people across the Portland metro area in making a difference.

Volunteers will connect with non-profit agencies in their community and participate in projects that include beautifying schools, revitalizing natural areas, and supporting programs for low-income and homeless families.

Inspire your friends, colleagues and family to step forward and join Hands On Greater Portland and Comcast on Saturday April 25th to help meet critical needs within the region.
