"Teach the Middle East"

April 18, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. “Teach the Middle East Conference for K-12 Educators,” featuring a keynote panel of Middle Eastern students and grade-level curricular workshops and breakout sessions focusing on the cultures of Turkey, Iran, Israel and the Arab world.

Middle Eastern lunch, entertainment, "Middle Eastern Market" and Middle East-related organizations.

Keynote Panel and lunch in Hoffman Hall at SW 11th Ave and SW Harrison, PSU; breakout sessions and closing in Smith Memorial Student Union, 1825 SW Broadway, PSU. $25 teachers, general public, $15 full-time students. Registration deadline April 14. Co-sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Oregon and PSU's Middle East Studies Center.

North Portland Community Gospel Choir is calling all people interested in using song and community to strengthen one another to come together for an inaugural event.

Register Now for All Born "In" Inclusion Conference

The 4th annual All Born "In" Conference will take place on April 18 at the Ambridge Event Center (1333 NE Martin Luther King Blvd, Portland.

The Northwest Down Syndrome Association (NWDSA) in conjunction with PSU and several other partners will present a parent-driven, cross disability inclusion conference that will provide tools, networking, and inspiration for parents and professionals committed to inclusive education opportunities for children with disabilities from birth to age 21.

Mental Health Support Group at the Julia West House

Find ways to deal with emotional pain, free from the use of drugs and alcohol. Get practical help with self-esteem, spiritual and emotional growth, and support from others for the future by finding freedom from the past. There is no cost for this group, but registration is required, please call Patty Warman at 503-222-6564.

The Small Business Development Center and souk  have come together to further support Portland's small business community.  A SBDC counselor, now regularly holds one hour, free!, sessions at souk in Old Town Chinatown, thereby establishing a convenient presence in downtown for those sole proprietors, small businesses and entrepreneurial trailblazers.

Field Video Production Workshop for Nonprofit Organizations - Portland Community Media

If you have staff or volunteers interested in taking media to the next level, PCM offers training opportunities to develop short videos from conception to completion. In this workshop, participants will work as part of a team to plan, shoot and edit a complete community media production. Students will learn to communicate using video as a medium; conduct an interview in the field; learn the fundamentals of field lighting, audio and camcorder operation; and edit in Apple’s Final Cut Pro nonlinear editing software.

FolkTime Admin Volunteer Needed

We are a very small non-profit serving Portland/Clackamas adults living with mental illness. We need a volunteer in our office to help keep things organized! This position has been funded in the past and will hopefully be funded in the near future. Please visit our website for more information: www.folktime.org.

Duties include general clerical, receptionist and project based work. Bookkeeping and experience with QuickBooks would be very welcome.

Description: The Interfaith Food and Farms Partnership (IFFP) is a project of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and its Interfaith Network for Earth Concerns.  We partner with churches and community agencies to deliver hands-on cooking classes for low-income families as part of a holistic approach to community food security.

We are looking for a dedicated individual to assist with the cooking classes. Volunteers are expected to arrive 15 min. early to help set-up, help with the class and stay 15min. after the class to help clean up.

Earth Day Celebration and Volunteer Work Party- April 18

Join us for an Earth Day Celebration and Volunteer Work Party on April 18, 2009 from 9am-1pm at the Virginia Garcia Cornelius Clinic!

We will be working on a number of projects around the clinic and could use your help! Projects include:

Installing a drip irrigation system Planting Painting Washing walls Cleaning up our storage unit

Wear work clothes and tennis shoes or boots and come ready to meet new people and have fun while giving back to the community and our planet. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Your help is truly appreciated!

Intern/volunteer needed at Virginia Garcia’s Cornelius Clinic to assist with brand new Holistic Health and Wellness course for patients. The Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center provides high quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary healthcare to the communities of Washington and Yamhill Counties with a special emphasis on migrant farmworkers and others with barriers to accessing healthcare. The Health Center has 4 clinic locations, 3 dental sites, a school-based health center, and a van which provides outreach services and treawtment to migrant communities.
