Special Film Screening benefitting Project Youth Doc

Since 2002, Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest has been successfully creating positive friendships that benefit children, volunteers, families, neighborhoods, and our community. In 2007 Big Brothers Big Sisters partnered with Film Action Oregon to expose Littles to the magic of filmmaking through Project Youth Doc. The partnership is continuing this year.

Join Big Brothers Big Sisters and Film Action Oregon on Saturday, April 11th from 10 AM ‘til noon at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Boulevard, for a special screening of documentary films made by Portland youth. General admission is $5 with all proceeds going in to a general scholarship fund for Littles to participate in Project Youth Doc for free this summer.

Program Assistant – Adelante Chicas Youth Program

POSITION TITLE: Program Assistant REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator

Adelante Chicas, is a youth program of Adelante Mujeres. Adelante Chicas was developed in response to an expressed need for a safe and fun environment in which young Latinas can learn from each other and about their heritage; express themselves freely about their experience as Latinas living in the U.S.; and take leadership within the wider community. The program provides a support network for Latina girls, to enhance their self-esteem and promote options for a positive future.

counseling/social work licensure internship

Richmond Place, an Impact Northwest transitional housing program for homeless families, has 1-2 internships available for counselors or social workers seeking clinical licensure. Weekly clinical supervision would be provided by an LCSW with over 20 years of clinical and supervision experience in exchange for four hours per week of individual , group, or family therapy with youth ages 10-18 and their families.

Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in counseling or social work and recent experience providing therapy or social services to youth and families.

Manager for a Satellite Senior Meal Site

Responsible for a mid-day meal service for seniors in downtown Portland. Successful candidate will have experience working in a production kitchen specifically in a hospital, school or hotel environment.

Associate Degree or two years work experience or education in Human Resources, Psychology, Gerontology, Management, Social Work, Community Nutrition, or other related field.

Management experience preferred. Ability to work in a team environment and work under own initiative. Skill and motivation to work with a multi-culturally and socially diverse population. Experience in working with volunteers.

Mandala Creation Workshops

This 6 week Mandala Creation Workshop to help you create mandala drawings. You will be guided using 2 different forms of meditation that channel your energy into the creation of luminous mandalas on paper. Supplies will be provided you just need to bring yourself, a pillow (to sit on), and perhaps a journal. These workshops are Sacred Art based which offers many outstanding growth opportunities and personal enhancement guidance. The workshop will be conducted weekly on Sunday afternoons for the general public beginning April 19th, 2009. Each session will focus on a different subject and type of mandala to create with each session lasting 3 hours in a safe, nonjudgmental, egoless atmosphere, using paper and colored pencils.

Learn specific strategies and practical ideas to help children develop social/emotional awareness, concentration skills, confidence, and the ability to manage emotions and impulses.

This workshop reviews current ADHD treatment practices, uncovers some of the myths of ADHD and introduces specially-designed classroom and counseling activities such as yoga-based movement, nervous system regulation techniques, social/emotional games, and relaxation and story-telling techniques.
