Film: Crude Awakening

http://www.portlandpeakoil.org/discussion/node/1617

Start: May 4 2008 - 1:00pm End: May 4 2008 - 4:00pm

As part of the First Unitarian Church of Portland's Community for Earth Film Series, they are showing the movie "Crude Awakening".

OilCrash, produced and directed by award-winning European journalists and filmmakers Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack, tells the story of how our civilization’s addiction to oil puts it on a collision course with geology. Compelling, intelligent, and highly entertaining, the film visits with the world’s top experts and comes to a startling, but logical conclusion – our industrial society, built on cheap and readily available oil, must be completely re-imagined and overhauled. - www.oilcrashmovie.com

Emergency food agency seeks food box packer!

Weekly volunteer food box packer needed at Sunshine Division, an emergency food relief nonprofit organization in unique partnership with the Police Bureau. Sunshine Division has been around since 1923 and provides more than 750 tons of emergency food to local families and individuals in need each year.

Due to the strained economic times, Sunshine Division has seen a major rise in the number of families and individuals seeking food relief. In February of 2008 we gave out 115% more emergency food than in February of 2007.

We are currently looking for a volunteer to come in Fridays for approximately 2-3 hours on a weekly basis to pack emergency food boxes. Times on Fridays can be flexible, but must be between 8am and 4pm.
