Regional Arts and Culture Council Workshops - Grant Writing for Success—The Foundation Level

This Saturday, 4-25-09; 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

In this introductory workshop geared for first-time applicants, individual artists learn how to decode application questions, brainstorm before writing the first draft, and strategize like successful grant writers.

Topics include: how to determine if you're ready to apply and how to enlist colleagues to help write your project description.

Help Plan the '20-Minute-Neighborhood' with Intersect Planning Group

Community Open House: 20 Minutes in West Portland Park

May 7th at Markham Elementary (10531 SW Capitol Highway)

Drop in anytime from 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Intersect Planning, a group of five graduate students from Portland State University's Urban and Regional Planning program, is currently working on a volunteer project in the West Portland Park neighborhood.  The group is exploring the application of the 20-Minute Neighborhood concept—an idea that is being considered in Portland's comprehensive plan update—in a real neighborhood.

Pete Seeger Celebration & Seed-sharing

Living Earth’s May 1 First Friday:

A Pete Seeger Birthday Celebration, with a grow-your-garden, seed-sharing theme. Pete’s 90th birthday is May 3—his actual bash will be at Madison Square Garden! But here in Stumptown, our home-style community potluck starts around 6:30, and then music and stories from about 7:30 – 9:00 pm or so.

Revel for a Cause on May 16th! Human Solutions' Gala featuring Tony Starlight

Las Vegas-style entertainment will mingle with fundraising for a GREAT cause on May 16th!  Helping families get back on their feet will share center stage on with Tony Starlight and the All-Star Horns at a benefit Gala for Human Solutions.

Human Solutions, an organization devoted to giving homeless and low-income families the opportunities they deserve, is hosting a May 16th fundraiser – Revel with a Cause - at the Holiday Inn Airport Convention Center that will have Portland’s community leaders swinging.

Monthly rent will be $100-$300, depending on how much space you need, and whether you want shared or private office space.  Includes shared kitchen, bathroom, and workshop/meeting space. Opportunity to share on-site food garden, if interested. Neighbors in the building are community-based non-profit organizations. Potential for future collaboration and/or resource-sharing among tenant organizations. 6-month minimum lease. Move-in date flexible, though June 1st would be ideal.

The Ronald McDonald House Weed and Feed event is Saturday, May 2nd!  (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM).

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington hosts our annual "Weed and Feed" day Saturday, May 2nd. Join us for a day of planting and pulling weeds! Help us make the House beautiful for families dealing with the serious illness of a child. The event runs 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and lunch will be provided. You will also get a free t-shirt! This is a family friendly event.
