FREE Premiere of "Changing Course," a documentary about rivers and innovative stream restoration in Oregon

Check out the trailer! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFvDVJSLC7Y

Join The Freshwater Trust for a FREE premiere screening of “Changing Course,” a film about real landowners and their land, about why streams and rivers need restoration and how restoration professionals struggle to do their work. The film also shows how some are working to improve efficiency and remove barriers to landowners inclined to do good work. Through candid interviews about actual projects in Oregon, “Changing Course” shows how innovation could move stream restoration into the 21st century.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A with filmmaker and restoration “stars” featured in the film.

When: Thursday, May 14th, 7pm

Tonight! Springboard Social Innovation Forum: Shelter

Please join us for this month's Springboard Social Innovation Forum!

May's Forum presents what’s new in imagining and inhabiting physical space, indoors and out. How do you co-design a workspace that will be shared with others, increasing efficiency and sharing costs while still being productive? How are people creating new kinds of co-housing? How do outdoor spaces provide refuge and healing? What is Portland doing to help organizations and people find the space they need to live, work, and grow? Join us and share your ideas that promote social innovation around the theme of shelter.

For more information see: www.springboardinnovation.org

We will discuss emerging local and national concepts and projects that are influencing this domain. Join us!

Film: Geoff Lawton's DVD Establishing a Food Forest - 7pm tonight

http://www.portlandpeakoil.org/content/film-geoff-lawtons-dvd-establishing-food-forest

When: Wednesday, May 13, 2009 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Where: St. Francis Dining Hall - 1182 SE Pine St.

What is a food forest?  It's all different types of trees and plants growing together more as you would find them in nature (rather than in an orchard), but substituting types of plants that provide you with food, medicine, etc. along with their other functions.  Since food forests are largely made up of perennial food plants (meaning they produce food every year with no replanting and low maintenance once established), they can provide you with lots of food for many years at very little cost.  In uncertain times, a food forest could be one of your smartest investments!

Who is Geoff Lawton?  Geoff is a top Australian permaculture teacher who has worked and taught in many parts of the world.  His experience and knowledge are very evident in the video.

he video is great - very inspiring!  It shows how to establish a new food forest, the techniqes used to nuture it in its early stages, and how productive it becomes in a relatively short time.
