Green Cleaning Workshop: Wednesday, May 27th

An Evening with Leonard Crow Dog

Join us Thursday, May 21, at 6:30 pm, for a talk by Leonard Crow Dog, a traditional Chief of the Lakota Nation and a recognized spiritual leader, intercessor and healer. He was the spiritual adviser to the American Indian Movement during the siege at Wounded Knee in 1973 and has played a significant role throughout his life in protecting and reviving sacred ceremonies such as the sundance, vision quest, and sweat lodge. A visionary who welcomes spiritual people of all races, Chief Crow Dog has been a tireless advocate for human rights, peace and justice for Native people.

To apply for this position, visit www.americorps.gov. This is a one-year Clara Barton VISTA Corp position, which we hope to extend for an additional two years. The Volunteer Resources Coordinator will research, develop and implement an enhanced volunteer management system based on best practices. He/she will work with VOA’s 20 programs to create new and expand existing volunteer opportunities to improve the scope of services to people in poverty. He/she will modify and streamline systems so that we are able to more effectively and efficiently manage volunteers, and offer an improved volunteer experience to people in the community.

Salary / Pay Rate:VISTA members receive a monthly living allowance of between $833-$865 per month. Join the Leadership and Entrepreneurship Charter High School, Starbucks, SOLV, our neighbors and friends to clean up the neighborhood.

Saturday May 23, starting at 11 a.m. We will meet at LEP high 2044 E. Burnside and splitting in to small teams to pick up litter, clean graffiti, etc.

Recruiting Youth for Portland’s Public Involvement Advisory Council

The City of Portland's Public Involvement Advisory Council (PIAC) has two positions open for youth, ages 16-22! The PIAC is charged with creating guidelines for how the City of Portland engages and involves the community in official decision making processes.

Are you interested in increasing the community's ability to have an impact on government decisions?

Would you like to help the City of Portland to involve the public in ways that are more inclusive and meaningful?

If so, consider serving on the Public Involvement Advisory Council for the City of Portland.

Two positions are currently open for youth who live in Portland and are between the ages of 16 and 22. Applications being accepted until June 25th, 2009.
