History of Oaks Bottom and Portland Memorial Mural

OASIS, a nonprofit education center, presents Mike Houck of the Urban Greenspaces Institute as he describes the history of 16-acre Oaks Bottom, Portland's first official urban wildlife refuge. Images of the many species of birds and other wildlife living in Oaks Bottom will be shown. Portland is home to the nation's largest building mural,located at the Portland Memorial Mausoleum at Oak's Bottom. ArtFX and the Urban Greenspaces Institute will show images and tell the story behind the creation of this amazimg mural. Thursday, 6/25 1:30 - 2:30. Located in the Downtown Macy's store, 4th Flr 621 SW 5th Ave, Portland, 97204. $7.00 class fee, Precessing fee of $7.00 may also apply.

Summer Teen Workshop Series at The ReBuilding Center

The ReBuilding Center Summer Teen Workshops:

Hands on workshops for people ages 11-17

 

Come explore The ReBuilding Center with us this summer and find out what you can create out of all recycled building materials.  Learn hand and power tool skills and practice woodworking and construction techniques to craft your own unique pieces of art.  Camp takes place in the ReFind Furniture woodshop inside The ReBuilding Center.

 

July 6-9, 1-4pm

Sliding scale $55-$130 or $15-$35 per day

+$5 materials fee for Wed July 8

Doors and Fences Demonstrations at The ReBuilding Center

The ReBuilding Center is hosting two carpentry demonstrations on Sunday June 28th.  An RSVP to [email protected] is preferred but feel free to drop in the day of.  Each demo is $5-$15 sliding scale.   

 

How to Hang a Door Demonstration

Demonstration on how to select a door from The ReBuilding Center warehouse, resize it and hang it.  Will also cover replacing basic door hardware.

Build your fence out of recycled wood.  Come learn how to set fence posts sturdy and straight and explore creative ways fill in the rest.

Retail Store Assistants: Work with Staff to receive, track, sort and stock donated materials; Provide customer service including individual problem solving, project planning and resource acquisition. Various 3 hour shifts available.
