Help Refugees Take Their First Steps to Freedom

The community will gather to honor the resilience and courage of refugees throughout the world at the 2nd Annual Footsteps to Freedom – World Refugee Day Walk on Saturday, June 21st. The 5K walk around Portland’s South Park Blocks will begin at 10:00 a.m. Registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. There will also be a resource fair, ethnic crafts and refugee speakers to help commemorate the day.

Portland VegFest this Friday, Saturday

VegFest is this weekend. This will be the largest vegetarian event ever held in Portland.  It will be a lot of fun, with great food and great information about eating lower on the food chain and working against global warming.  Friday May 9 Keynote 7pm.  Saturday May 10 Main Expo 10am to 6pm.

Conservation Crew Leader/Environmental Educator position

Mt.Hood Community College's Project YESS program for at-risk youth has an AmeriCorps LINKS position open for a Conservation Crew Leader/Environmental Educator.

This 300 hour position will assist in the leadership of a conservation crew consisting of 8 to 10 “at-risk” and low-income youth aged 16 to 21 completing valuable natural resource-based community services projects. Service period is roughly June 25th through September 6th.

Americorps VISTA position at Lewis & Clark College

Civic Engagement Coordinator

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The VISTA member will develop relationships with faculty members and support service-learning efforts relating to K-12 education, urban poverty, and community sustainability. The member will serve as a resource to faculty regarding the integration of civic engagement into curriculum thereby increasing students engaged in service. Additionally, the member will research and develop relationships with schools and organizations to create community partnerships with the College. The member will also coordinate co-curricular service projects that incorporate the identified issues, reflection, and civic responsibility. This position will also involve qualitative and quantitative assessment to evaluate project success.

Free Oil Furnace Tune ups!

Community Energy Project and the Oregon Environmental Council have teamed up to provide free oil furnace tune-ups for income-qualified participants throughout Multnomah County.

We have only EIGHT SLOTS left so call us today!

Oil Furnaces should be tuned up every year. Not only does it save money on heating costs, but it prevents costly repairs and reduces pollution, including carbon monoxide. Furnace must be in working order with oil in it for a tune up.
